A toe in the water

*peeks from behind a heavy curtain*

Oh hi there. Is there anyone actually out there reading? Do people get notified if my words appear to cascade forth once more from the abyss? It's been just over two years since I last left words public in this place for all to see. And it has been an exceedingly busy/crazy two years. I am no longer working retail. (I just re-read my rant on that and, wow, was I an angry lil man)

I am not working in the field in which I received a college Bachelor's degree in. But hey I'm paying my bills better that retail did. For the record I work in a CNC machine shop now. We produce parts from raw material (metal mostly, some plastic) for our various customers. Many of which are oil field related. It's Louisiana, what else is there around here? I've been doing this for about a year and a half now I suppose. The job is interesting on many levels. It requires me to use critical thinking, problem solving, and creative solutions. It find much of what we do rather fascinating. This is of course a good thing. For there is no amount of money really worth it if you hate your job.

There, however, has been some BAD happenings in my life as of late. In February a drunk driver rna a red light and hit my car. I had a passenger who was mildly injured and myself who received a triple fracture of my collarbone. Had I been 2-3 feet farther into the intersection the truck would have crushed into my body directly. As is the bastard totally destroyed my car. My less than a year old 2007 model car. I am very displeased with that fact. That fact almost more so than the personal injury. In any case I was out of work for 3 months while I healed and I'm not back.at work, only been 2.5 weeks. Talk about tiring.

Anyhow I'm rolling out. later. and lets hope I write more.

Magic Mirror

Gave this one a little extra time since I'd been out for so long. Feels kinda weurd writing without having Neji already have a post. Heh, that's perfectly fine. I've been slacking pretty badly on my own writing.

Anyhow... There's this interesting thing we have. It's called a mirror and let's you see how yuou look in the morning. You can check your hair and teeth. Pretty handy thing all in all. Do you ever wonder about what's on the other side. I mean in a creepy way. Ever see that little flicker of movement that you couldn't quite make out. Whn you look into your eyes are they really your eyes? Or do they belong to something malevolent trying to spook you from the depths of that two dimensional space between a pane of glass and a reflective backing?

I've seen it. But it's never really bothered me. I give it a look smirk at Mr. Bogeyman and say to "Sod off Chummer, you don't bother me." And until he/it decides to come out of that mirror to meet me I'm going to keep laughing at it and ignoring its pathetic attempts to intimidate me. Is that foolish? Have I angered the demons of the mirror. Maybe it's just a playful sprite wanting to make a bit 'o mischchief.

Eh whatever... I've gotten over my issues. I used to stare into the mirror a long time. Just standing and staring wondering what people think when they see me. If they looked down at me or even gave a shit. These days I could care less what they think. I know what I think and that's all that truly matters. If the rest of the world has an issue with that they can tell it to me face because I'm done staring in the mirror.

The music of mine

So here I sit with iTunes playing random stuff off of my playlist. There's been a recent meme going around that I found rather amusing. Basically you open whatever music media player you have on your computer set it to random and open your entire library. There's a list of questions you can ask and then hit forward. The song that comes up is the 'answer'. It is very very odd how creepily accurate or relevant the response gets at times.

Also you can make up your own questions... like hmmm "What will be my last thought before I die?" iTunes response just now for that is... 'It's my Life' By Bon Jovi(acoustic version). See oddly interesting and accurate. My playlist is huges... just over 1500 songs so its got a very nice variety. From Rock to classical and all between with odd sidetracks into bizarre and wonderful. Just like me... so yeah!

Ok here's the deal. I post a thought all of you. ALL of you make a response. Just like I detailed in ...

The Initial Proposal

So now I figure which ponderings you and I shall write about. Ah here!

What does your musical playlist say about you?

The Four Gamers of the Apocalypse

Late yes I know.. work has been draining and my brain just could not focus on this but I think I've managed to get this one worked out and an idea has sprung.

The four gamer types of a Game's Apocalypse

Behold the four Gamer/horsemen that all GM's fear and do much facplanting when such a tool is discovered in thier well crafted story.

The first is an insidious creature... While often very useful in most situations if it is not carefully monitored it cvan completey destroy a play ennvirornment. It is the MacGuyver Playertype. For every situation there is a solution that can be cobbled together from bits and pieces of anything he may find. It is the danger of a slow powercreep where a GM may suddenly find he is no longer controlling the world... the world is reacting to the player.

The second is the Rules Lawyer. Any note and errata ever made is memorized and kept on file to use against the GM when he desires. His piles of books are only there to support his rigid desire for a perfectly controlled situation where he may exploit or defend his position in the game.

The third is the Min/Maxer also known as Das Munchkin. This gamer builds his character thinking in terms of numbers. It's like the matrix. It's not a person its a line of code that he manipulates so that it does something fantastically. Usually this is combat... other times manipulation of other people. Either way this single minded focus on one thing creates an imbalanced character and ruins play experience for others.

The last and possibly the most frustrating of Gamer types is the UBER. He's a combo of all the rest using rules, minmaxing techniques, and quite often simple pulling of items/skills/abilties out of ass-space. There is nothing in your campaign that can combat him.. and creating such a thing would ultimately destroy the rest of the party/players. They leech fun from the game which is a self-masturbatory act for them. It's all about them and thier fun. These people should be shot. except they're so bad-ass they'll just dodge it Neo-style.

Sorry for the delay.. we now put you back to your regularly scheduled blog.
